Remixing

Race Around The World (remix)

What's it about?
Race around the world is basically a simple board game that allows 2 to 4 players in a race around the world. It also tests your knowledge about important facts which occurred in different countries. The blocks on the board represent the areas where you are traveling. Players move by using a dice and whoever gets the end wins a $1 million.

Rules
Players must go forward at all times unless told to via the red or green cards. When a player lands on a red stop sign he/she must pick up a red card and obey the instructions. When a person lands on a green stop sign, he/she must obey the instructions. If 2 or more players land on the same block the other person has to choose a country in which they must say a fact or something important or unique about the country. If the person cannot answer all the questions asked by the other players, he/she must go back two spaces.

Remix

If a player ends up on the same block as you then both of you have to go back to the beginning. Also, if you roll the dice and you get an double number then you must take up a card no matter what colour it is. If you answer correctly, then you remain. However, if you answer incorrectly then you have to start from the beginning of the game. By these new settings and rules the game has become more of a chance game.

Tic-Tac-Toe Modification

Tic-Tac-NUMBERS

For my next class I have to modify the game Tic-Tac-Toe.

My New Modification:

I changed the chart from a 3x3 to a 4x4 chart. I changed the chart to make it a better formation for the new rules and additions. I have placed numbers at the end of each row and column. So the 4 rows will have the numbers 5, 6, 7, and 8 at the side of the chart. The columns will have the numbers 8, 7, 6, and 5 at the bottom of the chart.

Now in the original Tic-Tac-Toe, one player writes X and the other writes O. However, in my modification, the players have the option of writing an X or an O
In this case, the Xs and the Os equal a number. X = 2 and O = 1. Players can differentiate by writing their Xs and Os in different colour pen or writing small symbols to show who wrote what.

The goal is to add up the Xs and Os so that it equals to the numbers.Your job is to get the Xs and Os equal to the amount of the row or column you use while trying to block the other player from doing the same.

Whoever gets their Xs/Os to equal to one of the numbers at the bottom or side of the chart wins the game.

Below shows an example of the game. ( this is me playing with an opponent-brother) We used different colour markers so we will not forget who put what because remember, players can write both Xs and Os.
Remember X=2 O=1

As you can see the opponent has blocked my plan of placing all 4 Xs in row 4 by placing an O.

The opponent is the winner because he has placed another O at the top row making them equal to 5.

My Experience

While playing this game, I realized that it takes more time in terms in making decisions. In the original Tic-Tac-Toe, the players' decision-making was limited to just writing X and O. However, in Tic-Tac-NUMBERS, players have to take more time to ponder upon their next move and actually think about what they are doing. More importantly their addition skills is tested. This game uses tactics and skill. In addition, it is fun and people appreciate the difference in dynamics.

Starry Night

Starry Night
Journey Across the Sky

Made By: Game Dev Girls +1
This board game is an art game that will take you through the wonders and experiences. It is not a competitive game, but it is a game that will get you to socialize among your friends.

What is our game About?

The objective of the game is to create the longest card set.

Rules

The game is played with a group of 3-4 friends.
Each turn you choose to go to any flag place and can pick up from that card pile. When you have 3 cards in your hand or more you can attempt to complete a card set.
A card set is completed by bringing up a past event that has happened with the whole group that relates to/includes all of the card names you have in your hand. At least 3 cards in your hand has to have happened in this “past event”.   This means you can try to include items/card names that didn’t actually happen in an attempt to fool your friends.
They can call cheater/ liar or some variation of that.  If one person agrees with you but the others all call you a liar, the card set is completed and successful.  However since not everybody believes you, that card cannot go into reserve.  As long as you choose to hold on to this card set, you cannot continue your turn.  You may discard the entire card set (reshuffle) for another attempt at making a bigger card set.

Only card sets that everybody agrees with can be placed into a reserve.  If everybody calls you a liar reshuffle the cards into their respective piles and try again.
A reserve is a placeholder for the card set.  Only one card set per person can be recorded on the reserve.  This allows you to guarantee at least a certain amount of cards in a set that will be used to determine the winner.
At the time that another card set is completed and passes the requirement to be able to be put into the reserve, they can swap out the current card set in the reserve for the one they have just completed.
If you obtain a fill in the blank card but do not have a reserve, reshuffle it back into the pile you got it from,  if you answer the fill in the blank card correctly you can add it to the reserve card set otherwise reshuffle it into the pile.

The game can end in two predetermined ways.  Either by obtaining the card set amount said at the start of the game, or by the amount of rounds determined at the start of the game.  One round is when either all players have at least 5 cards, has tried completing a set or a mixture of both.

Developing the idea

Before developing this great game we had to come up with an idea. So, we got together and discussed what exactly what sort of game we have to make. We read the instructions provided on Blackboard and began throwing out ideas. We also did a lot of research on the internet. As a result, we learned what about Van Gogh and his paintings and studied what he intended for them. Eventually Laura came up with a fantastic idea and everyone loved so we all agreed to create the game based on Laura's idea.

Making the Game

First of all, the entire board was done by Laura. She did a fantastic job painting it. We don't know what we would do without her amazing skills. From what I can gather, this painting took hours to do.
The following images show the steps Laura took in completing this impressive yet difficult task.

1) top left
2) top right
3) bottom left
4) bottom right

After long and tiresome hours Laura transform that white board that Zee provided into a masterpiece.

As for the rest of us we worked on the other necessary materials needed for the game. Zee and Keerthana worked on the cards, Clement worked on the rules, Evelyn worked on the PowerPoint, while I worked on the flags.

My Job

My responsible was to make the flags that were to be placed on the board. I thought it would be really cool if I made them standing up.  The others thought it was a good idea to so that is what I did. I used red paper because it makes a good contrast with the board, since it is blue. I cut the red paper into small triangles and bent them on a toothpick. The base is taken from the leftover part of the board. I cut them into small squares and used a glue gun to glue the black paper on them to give them a more appealing look.

 My Experience

I had a good time getting together with the Girls +1 to create this game. We had fun in between some things but I'm glad we managed to get through and finish it on time. Art is truly an important aspect to board games.

Liar's Dice

Rules Change:
2 to 4 players

Everyone gets 5 dice and a cup. Everyone shakes their dice within their cups. You have the option to tell the truth or lie about your dice values.

If you are challenged by another player and you are telling the truth about our dice then the person
has to give you one of his/her dice and they miss a turn.

If you are challenged by another player and you are lying then you have to give one dice to the person challenging you and you have to miss a turn.
Every person on their turn can choose to challenge one person, two persons, or everyone
If you choose to challenge everyone and you win then you get 1 dice each. If you win the challenge for only 2 persons then you do not give away any dice. If you lose the challenge to everyone then you must give away 1 dice to each player and you miss a turn to the same number of persons playing the game.

Galaga Card Game

This card game takes you through the wonders and adventures of space and aliens. It is a great experience for you and your friends.

Number of Players: 2 to 4

Rules Each player starts the game with no cards in their hands and 30 health points. At the start, including the first turn, a player first draws a card and puts it in their hand. A player may have a max of 5 cards in their hand. During their turn a player may play 1 card from their hand and make the decision to attack a player or defend against all incoming damage. Attacking another player does 2 damage to the enemy player. Defending against damage causes the player to take 50% of all incoming damage to themselves for that turn. Cards can be drawn to alter your attack or defense. These cards last 3 turns and is useless after they are played.  When a player’s hull points are depleted the cards in their hand are sent to the bottom of the deck and is shuffled.  The winner is the last man standing.
Types of Cards:
Defense Cards are cards that a player can use to defend themselves against attacks from other players. The defense can give away up to 2 defense points.

Health Cards are cards that players can use to restore health points.

A Weapon Card is a card that can exceed your damage points in order to attack other players.

A Miscellaneous Card varies between getting points and getting damage points.

How we made our Game
We researched about the Galaga card game and then developed an idea for how we can make the card game different. We designed our cards using Photoshop. Each of the cards were then printed, cut, and glued unto a Bristol board. We also designed an image for the back of the cards as well.

THE GREAT GOLD THEFT!!!!

The great gold theft is a collection game where a few greedy robbers make their way through a leprechaun forest to get the pots of gold.

Goal: Each robber has to collect as many pots of gold as possible before they reach the finish line.
How to win: Players must reach the finish line and the one with most gold wins.
Game set-up: The board game is set up by the players.

Rules: Whenever a player steps on a mine, he/she has to pick up an action card and does exactly what the action card says. This game can be simple or difficult depending on how the players set up the pieces (e.g. the mines are really closely placed, then the players get an extra advantage when the players roll a 6, then the number of gold you have is doubled, e.g. if u have 2, it becomes 4 and if the player rolls a 1, then the number of gold is reduced by 1).
When two or more players land on the same spot, they have to battle.
How do you battle another player?
-rolling the dice and whoever gets the highest number wins
-rock, paper, scissors
The loser has to pick up an action card and obey its instructions.

There are also leprechaun pieces in the game, when a player lands on a tile with a leprechaun piece; he/she gets to choose one of the other players to pretend to be the leprechaun and battle with them. The player chosen for the battle gets to decide if they want to battle it out with rock, paper and scissors or roll the dice. If the player who landed on the leprechaun space wins the battle, then he/she loses nothing and they just continue playing normally. But, if they lose, the player you battled with gets all the gold you so far have and you have to respawn (start from the very beginning).
Since all players have to reach the finish line to determine the winner and some of them may reach the finish line way before the others, if two or more players finish the game first, they can place bets between them for the pots of gold they have collected so far.
The winner of the collection game gets a gold star indicating that he is the chief of the robber’s gang and gets to keep it!
