Trials of Sensibility & Skulls

This is a fantastic game that takes you through crazy obstacles in the midst of battling a romance. Join the pirates, Marianne and Elinor as they search for treasure but instead find love. It's a pure love story you will not find in any other board game.

Made by: Game Dev Girls +1

Objective: Pirate Captain Dashwood has died. Previous to his death he has banished several crewmembers including Marianne and her sister Elinor for trying to take control over his ship. now they are traversing the land and seas trying to find their own fortune. However, fate has a different road for them.
The main object to this game is to retrieve the highest amount of 'Relationship' scores as possible.

 RULES
Equipment/Set up:The game can be played with two players or with two teams containing two persons in each team. The players can choose whether they want to be Marianne or Elinor.

Elinor(left) and Marianne(right)

Set 'Object' and 'Relationship' cards in appointed area and place the players at the start. Whoever rolls highest number on the die goes first.

Game play: You can move your players by rolling the die. Also you can choose which direction you wish to go on the board. when you land on a 'Relationship' tile or an 'Object' tile, pick up the respected card and proceed with the instructions on the card. 'Relationship' cards are worth one point. if there is a tie, count the 'Object' cards as well.

The Making of Trials of Sensibility & Skulls
This board game was tricky to do because we had to include pirates into the game which was hard to do. So as a result, we got together and we exchanged ideas for a day I think. We had such a hard time coming up with a main goal for this board game. Sometimes, it would be back and forth with "I don't think this idea will work" or "I think we are making this game too complicated" etc....
Finally we came up with a solid idea and we were able to continue with building the board game.

These are just some images of us making our board game-Trials of Sensibility & Skulls.

About Sense and Sensibility
This board game follows the storyline of the book Sense and Sensibility written by Jane Austen.
We chose Sense & Sensibility because we wanted to be unique from other groups in our class and we also thought that the book was interesting. Sense and Sensibility is about three sisters(however the book mainly focuses on two) who evidently have to manage in life with a small income. Shortly after their father died, all of his possessions were given to his son leaving Marianne, Elinor, their mother, and their third sister with barely nothing. When they move in with their brother, certain gentlemen come into their lives and changes their futures entirely.

Quick board game the girls and I made in class.

I thought our board game was pretty cool. I loved we all came up with great ideas and were able to figure out the best and easiest way to make up a game and design it as well.

My Board Game

Race Around The World

This is a board I made for Game Design & Production.

What's it about?
Race around the world is basically a simple board game that allows 2 to 4 players in a race around the world. It also tests your knowledge about important facts which occurred in different countries. The blocks on the board represent the areas where you are traveling. Players move by using a dice and whoever gets the end wins a $1 million.

Rules: Players must go forward at all times unless told to via the red or green cards. When a player lands on a red stop sign he/she must pick up a red card and obey the instructions. When a person lands on a green stop sign, he/she must obey the instructions. If 2 or more players land on the same block the other person has to choose a country in which they must say a fact or something important or unique about the country. If the person cannot answer all the questions asked by the other players, he/she must go back two spaces.

Compliments to my Game Design Group:
Wes' board game was sick. Keerthana's board was off the hook. Her game had Brett so angry cause he had  to start over so many times. In her game, every time someone lands in the same block as you, you have to go back to the beginning. I loved it though. Probably because I was lucky and didn't have to start over as much as Wesley and Brett. I actually got far in the game.

CHEZ DORK

Number of players:6
Time played: 40 minutes

Rules of the game: In the box, you will find 6 pictures of characters. everyone must choose who they want to be before starting the game. On the characters card there is a section where it the obsessions of the character is printed. Now every turn you must take $30. The game does not supply the play money so players will have to use your own set of play money or you can be creative. You must take 5 cards from the deck. These cards will have pictures of various things the characters may be obsessed with. When it is your turn you must decide whether you want to purchase a card from your hand( which have their price marked on them), trade or auction them with other players. By purchasing the cards in your hand, you obtain points.

Winning the game: The player who obtains 25 points first wins the game

Major Observations:
Things I liked
-Fun
-Interesting
-Dorky

Things I disliked
- It is a long game especially when the players do not fully understand the game
-No play money was provided in the game. Players had to use pieces from another game for money
-Cards on deck were hard to understand. Some just did not make any sense to me

Something I would have designed differently: The characters on the bases each have their own 'obsessions'. I would change the word obsessions to 'interests'.
